At The Sweet North, we are passionate about baking and providing our community with delicious, high-quality products. Based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, we operate two locations, including a welcoming bakeshop and a convenient drive-through/café. Everything we create is made from scratch in-house with care and dedication.

As we continue to grow and expand our operations, we are excited to introduce this new position for a Lead Baker to join our team. As our Lead Baker, you'll play a key role in fostering positive community connections and ensuring that our bakery continues to be a place where people gather, connect, and enjoy.

Your Role
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Thunder Bay, ON. As our Lead Baker, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the bakery, leading a talented team of bakers and ensuring everything runs smoothly. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing, training and mentoring a team of  bakers

  • Creating and optimizing schedules to ensure a seamless operation

  • Managing labour and supply costs to maintain efficiency

  • Upholding the quality and consistency of our baked goods

  • Maintaining inventory, equipment, and supplies to ensure everything is in top condition

  • Developing and managing production schedules to meet demand

  • Keeping the bakery clean, organized, and fully operational at all times

Who You Are
You are a passionate baker with extensive experience in baking and pastry arts, and you're excited about the opportunity to lead a team that shares your commitment to quality. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and brings a positive attitude to every aspect of their work.

Key Qualifications

  • A strong background in baking and pastry arts, with at least 5 years of professional experience

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team

  • In-depth knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • A keen eye for detail and a passion for creating exceptional baked goods

  • Certification or diploma in Baking and Pastry Arts

  • Food safety certification required

  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and customer preferences

  • Knowledge of current trends in the baking industry and an understanding of supply chains
